Montessori for Every Child and Family

The Montessori approach to education lies on the belief that children have an innate ability to learn from their natural surroundings. Dr. Maria Montessori also emphasised that the key to this natural process of learning and development is through respectful relationships between adults and children. Considering these principles, Montessori is a way of thinking and a lifestyle that can be applied to every child in any environment, be it at school or outside the bounds of it.

The accessibility to Montessori based formal education is not too wide considering the small number of Montessori schools, the financial impact it creates, the logistics and proximity of the premises and various other needs of families, not excluding the impact of the pandemic. This isn’t to say that those not enrolled in Montessori education are unable to follow the Montessori approach. It is all about aligning our lives around the principles of the philosophy such as encouraging children’s independence, caring for the environment, following their interest and building respectful relationships. As parents or educators our moral responsibility is to guide children through these principles so they learn in an organic manner where their unique needs are met.

The education of even a small child, therefore, does not aim at preparing him for school but for life – Maria Montessori
